Piano Teacher, St Margaret’s College, Christchurch New Zealand
These two private girls’ schools are amongst the most prestigious in New Zealand . Employment to Rangi Ruru was by a competitive audition and extensive interview. Employment to St Margaret’s was by recommendation by a retiring colleague. I was the sole piano teacher at Rangi Ruru, teaching from absolute beginners to diploma students, while at St Margaret’s I was responsible for teaching the more advanced students. Some of my responsibilities at the above two schools include:
- teach piano students from Year 7 - Year 13 (age 12-18)
- teach Musicianship, Aural Skills, and Theory to all instrumental students that need assistance in these areas
- accompany school choir
- prepare students for school assessments, NZ National Qualifications, outside body examinations (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College of London, Australian Music Examinations Board)
- accompany instrumental students for school assessments, concerts, outside body exams, competitions
- coach chamber music groups
- audition prospective music scholarship student
Theory and Keyboard Tutor, University of Canterbury , NZ
During my postgraduate years at the University of Canterbury, I was a tutor for a Music Rudiments paper and a Beginners’ Keyboard class for non-music majors. My responsibilities included:
- take tutorial classes (10-15 people), going through materials taught at lectures
- set and mark weekly assignments
- teach basic keyboard skills to non-keyboard majors
